Knowledge Of Foundation

Nobody knows our puppies better than we do! We sit in the whelping rooms with all of our dogs as they are having their puppies, and help deliver them. We are the first people to see and touch them, the first ones to give them their first meal, and are solely responsible for their health for the first couple of months of their lives. We watch their ears and eyes open, and their personalities emerge. We know their parents and their quirks, and have them living in the house with us. Other training programs cannot offer the personalized knowledge of your puppy that we can.
Pack Order
A dog knowing its place in the pack is essential to it's development. All dogs are either an Alpha dog, a Beta Dog, or an Omega dog. We see them start jockeying for position just hours after they are born as they compete for the most milk from their mothers. We again have the knowledge of their foundation and development, but when we are able to keep them longer, it's easier for us to deduce if the puppy is a true alpha, beta, or omega dog.  At our facility, we have a well-adjusted pack of dogs, and the puppies will get to experience and interact with them on a daily basis. Of course, most people only have one or two dogs, but the puppy understanding where they belong in the pack will make them easier to fully train, and easier for you as their owner to understand their tendencies.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

WHAT IS THE COST OF A TRAINED OR PRE-TRAINED PUPPY?

Here at JLDD, pricing for our trained puppies varies based on the amount of training that the puppy receives. Sensibly, the older the puppy gets the more training they receive. Our 4-Week Preschool Program is $6,000 (or $1,500/week), followed by our 8-Week Preschool Program at the cost of $11,500 (or $1,437/week), our 12-Week Preschool Program is $16,000 (or $1,333/week). Our 16-Week Preschool Program is at the cost of $21,000 (or $1,312/week), and finally, our highly intensive 20-Week Pre-Service & Therapy Preschool Program is $26,000. All of these prices are in addition to the cost of the puppy itself. Please click on the links to understand the differences and inclusions of each program.

WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF BUYING A PRE-TRAINED PUPPY?

For many people, training a new puppy is a considerable endeavor from the standpoint of investing a massive amount of time, education, patience, and oftentimes money. Shaping the your dog's young mind to be the companion that you dream of while being diligent about their health care ('when is it safe to bring them places?' 'how much exercise is too much exercise?', etc.) can be a overwhelming task for many pet parents. Similar to children, when they are young, puppies' minds are the most malleable and accept new information readily. Making sure that your puppy learns and experiences the right things at the right time can be staggering for some people - especially those who are first-time pet parents.

If time is a commodity in your life, and you still want a puppy who gets excellent training and will turn into the dog-of-your-dreams, investing in a pre-trained puppy may be an excellent investment. The amount of time a puppy takes up has likened to the amount of time a new baby takes up. If you struggle with patience, it might get old quickly to continue cleaning up messes from your puppy multiple times a day. Again, similar to human babies, puppies cannot make it through the night without a few breaks, so if you like your sleep, you might want to look into purchasing a puppy who is already trained. The benefits of buying a pre-trained puppy are innumerable.

HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO TRAIN A PUPPY BEFORE IT'S READY TO GO HOME?

The answer to this question lies in your answer to the question of "what's important to me?"when it comes to your puppy's training.

If you are only wanting your puppy to have basic crate  and potty training skills, we can likely accomplish this with your puppy in our 4-Week Preschool Program. If you are looking for more advanced training on their crate and potty skills as well as some socialization, leash training, and basic obedience skills, you may want to look into our 8-Week Preschool Program

If you still are looking for a bit more, our 12-Week Preschool Program could be in ideal match for you. This program delves into much more advanced potty and crate training skills, leash walking, obedience as well as customized socialization experiences tailored to your lifestyle. In the event that you're searching for something highly trained to your individual lifestyle, needs, and wants, we recommend our 16-Week Preschool Program that covers advanced skills with potty and crate training, advanced obedience and leash walking, highly customized socialization experiences, and more.

If you have special therapeutic or service needs, our 20-Week Pre-Service & Therapy Preschool Program is likely going to be the best choice for you. This program includes highly advanced skills, and will allow you to work with your puppy's trainer once a week to ensure that both handler and puppy's skills work together cohesively.

ARE PRE-TRAINED PUPPIES HOUSEBROKEN AND CRATE TRAINED?

Typically, yes! In each of our preschool programs, this is a foundational piece of our puppies' training. Of course, once they come home, there will be a transitional stage that our team will help guide you through.

WHAT KIND OF TRAINING TO DO PRE-TRAINED PUPPIES USUALLY RECEIVE?

While every training program is different, JLDD's puppy preschool program focuses on the individual needs of both the puppy and the owner. In almost every instance, puppies are crate trained to sleep through the night or take breaks in their crates, housebroken to ask to go outside to relieve themselves, started on leash walking, and commands like "sit", "down", "place", "stay" and more. We also focus heavily on socialization opportunities for our young puppies who have yet to experience many things in the world.

ARE TRAINED PUPPIES AVAILABLE FOR SERVICE OR THERAPY PURPOSES?

Yes! Because we were getting so many requests for puppies trained specifically for therapy and service, we created our 20-Week Pre-Service & Therapy Preschool Program. This program is highly customized for the clients' individual wants and needs. If you don't need something as intensive as this, one of our other programs may be a good fit for you. Please be aware also that along with this customized training program, we will also work alongside you to be sure that the perfect puppy with the right temperament, size, and/or structure is matched with you specifically to meet your needs.

CAN I CUSTOMIZE THE TRAINING BASED ON MY LIFESTYLE OR PREFERENCES? â€‹

CAN YOU? Please do! Here at JLDD, that is a huge part of what our training program is based on. Training is not "one size fits all" and every person's needs vary, so our training is a little different with every puppy and client. Upon entry to one of our preschool programs, you will receive an intake questionnaire so we can understand your wants and needs well. Then, one of our team members will reach out to go over it with you and answer any questions you have. Based on availability, we will also match your puppy's trainer to the trainers whose lifestyle matches yours best. (For example, if you have kids, we'll put your puppy with a trainer who has kids also so they can get used to the energy in the house with having kids around)

WHAT AGE ARE THE PUPPIES WHEN THEY ARE CONSIDERED 'PRE-TRAINED'? â€‹

Again, this varies based on what your needs are. Occasionally, puppies will enroll into our preschool programs older than 8-weeks of age, but typically puppies begin preschool at 8 weeks and graduate after their allotted amount of time in preschool. So, if a puppy enrolls in our 4 week program when they are 8 weeks old, they will be 12 weeks old when they graduate. If a puppy goes into 8 weeks of training, they will be 16 weeks old at their graduation date. If they go into our 12-week program, they'll be 20 weeks old when they graduate. Then, if they enroll in our 16-week program, they will be 24 weeks old when they are able to come home. Lastly, if they are enrolled in our 20-week program, they'll be 26 weeks old at their graduation date.

HOW DO I ENSURE THE TRAINING QUALITY OF A PRE-TRAINED PUPPY? â€‹

This is a great question! Here at JLDD, we send a report card each week as well as photos and videos that outline your puppy's progress in preschool. This will give you benchmarks on where your puppy SHOULD be versus where they are, and if they are meeting criteria for that week, ahead of the game, or struggling a bit. If your puppy is struggling for any reason, we will create a plan to correct it and work with your puppy during that week. Additionally, you will be able to see for yourself your puppy's progress via the photos and videos that are sent along with your puppy's weekly report card.  Also, we will create a customized plan and video guide for you prior to your puppy's homecoming.

DO TRAINED PUPPIES ADAPT WELL TO NEW FAMILIES AND ENVIRONMENTS? â€‹

This is an excellent question, and one to consider! Typically, we have absolutely no problems with puppies adjusting to new environments. We do ask that adoptive families be patient while their puppy is learning its new people and environment, but our puppies have been trained to transition somewhat seamlessly.

Additionally, We do have some methods we use to ensure a smooth transition into a puppy's new home. Because dogs are so scent-oriented, we will often ask for a puppy's adoptive family to send an article of clothing that smells like them to us. We put that piece of clothing into the puppy's crate so that they smell it all night when they are sleeping. Then, when they go to their forever homes, they're able to have some familiarity to the environment via scent. Additionally, we offer supply packs that families can send to their puppy while in training. When the puppy graduates and goes home, the supplies go with them. That way, the puppy is able to have familiarity of its trainer's home in its new home also via scent.

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE IN A TRAINED PUPPY AND AN UNTRAINED PUPPY?

This is both a simple and complicated question. In terms of behavior, a trained puppy will have MUCH more self-control, they will be able to settle and soothe themselves emotionally. They will typically be more confident as they understand who is in control and what expectations are. They understand the hierarchy within a home and understand what is expected of them. They have respect for their owners and the other pets within the household. While all puppies test people and like to push the limits to some degree, a puppy who has undergone training will typically do this less as they already have the emotional and mental understanding of their place and feel safe in it.

An untrained puppy typically behaves in a more out-of-control way, not being able to understand that they are safe and a healthy understanding of boundaries. This can come out in many ways - being destructive, relentless crying, not responding to correction, never asking to potty outside...the list goes on! Because they have had no good, consistent training, they don't have a healthy understanding of their place in the proverbial "pack" of the household. They can be much more challenging toward the other humans or pets within the home in the form of aggression or being overly submissiveness (which can also come out as aggression).  Puppies who are untrained have no understanding of boundaries and respect, which makes them feel unsafe. A puppy who feels unsafe typically acts out much more than a puppy who has some training from a safe, consistent, knowledgable, and loving trainer and/or owner.

ARE VACCINATIONS AND HEALTH CHECKS INCLUDED WITH PRE-TRAINED PUPPIES? â€‹

In our training program here at JLDD, the answer is YES! Puppies enrolled in our programs will be kept up-to-date on their routine health checks, vaccinations, preventative medications, and more.

CAN PRE-TRAINED PUPPIES BE TRAINED FURTHER AFTER ADOPTION? â€‹

Definitely! Even when your puppy completes our programs here at JLDD, you will want to practice their commands with them to ensure that they transfer to you well. You are also free to do more training that might be fun or necessary for you!

As we say here at JLDD, training is never really 'over'! With each stage in a dog's life, new challenges or obstacles can occur and additional training may be needed. Additionally, when changes happen in our lives as humans (marriages, babies, divorces, etc.) changes also happen in your dog's life. Please be aware that training is not a 'once and done' sort of thing!

DO TRAINED PUPPIES COME WITH GUARANTEES OR WARRANTIES?

Here in our program, yes! All of the puppies sold by JLDD come with our industry-leading 3-year health guarantee. Additionally, we have individualized contracts and guarantees for each preschool program we offer.

ARE THERE ANY DOODLE BREED-SPECIFIC BEHAVIORS THAT TRAINED PUPPIES MIGHT HAVE?

For each breed (as well as each size within that breed) there are different personality quirks. Even when they are trained, some of these behaviors can sometimes still be present. For example, sometimes bernedoodles are a little more stubborn, and miniature sized dogs can be more vocal. We recommend that you EDUCATE yourself on the differences in the breeds and sizes here on our website and on our BLOG. We have even set up a great QUIZ that you can take to see what breed might be best for you specifically.

Here at JLDD, before adopting a puppy either through our 'pluckable' preschool program or before a puppy is even born and then enrolling it in training with us, you will be asked to APPLY and we'll go over your application with you personally. We can help you decide if the breed you're leaning towards is actually a good fit for you, or if some of the characteristics you gravitate toward may be more available in a different size or breed!

HOW DO I CARE FOR AND MAINTAIN A PRE-TRAINED PUPPY'S TRAINING? â€‹

Continuing and transferring your puppy's skills that they learned while in preschool at JLDD is essential to success! Our team is here for you every step of the way. Before your puppy graduates preschool, you'll get a letter from your puppy's trainer that outlines their routines for the day, quirks, and more. We suggest you follow this guide for the first few weeks your puppy is home with you before making significant changes. This will help your puppy transfer their skills and routines to their new owners. Additionally, you will get a personalized video that shows how your puppy does their commands, how they are corrected, etc.. We ask you to follow this guide when asking your puppy to behave so that there is familiarity for the puppy there while building a bond with their new owner.

We also typically do a zoom session with you before and after your puppy goes home to prepare you and your home for the puppy. After they've been home a few days, our training team will typically schedule a follow-up session to be sure that your puppy skills are transferring and that you feel comfortable with any issues you may experience.  Even years in the future, our team is only a call, email, or text away!

ARE THERE ONGOING SUPPORT SERVICES FOR FAMILIES WHO ADOPT TRAINED PUPPIES? â€‹

Yes! We are always here to help.

HOW DO I VERIFY THE CREDENTIALS OF THE BREEDER OR TRAINER OF A PRE-TRAINED PUPPY? â€‹

All you have to do is ask! All of our trainers have different levels of credentials. Most breeders and trainers are not one-in-the-same, which is part of what makes our program stand out!
